Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation will launch February 29 with a fete at Harvard University, the singer and her mother and co-founder, Cynthia Germanotta, announced in a statement on Thursday (January 19). BTWF was created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end.

Joining the pop star at Sanders Theatre will be her partners in the endeavor: Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment.

Gaga has long been a staunch supporter of anti-bullying legislation, reportedly meeting with President Obama to discuss the topic in September and visiting the White House in early December to discuss the issue with administration officials. She dedicated her performance of “Hair” at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old fan who took his own life after years of anti-gay harassment. And last year, Gaga topped DoSomething.org’s list of the most charitable celebrities, in part for her work on behalf of gay rights causes.

“My daughter’s foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be,” Germanotta said. “She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society.”

The Mother Monster’s commitment to the gay community was again recognized Thursday (January 19) with a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the GLAAD Media Awards. The awards recognize fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community across all media. In December, the diva was recognized with the Hero Award by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to LGBT youth.

During her acceptance speech at Trevor Project Live, Gaga touched on her wishes to someday make bullying a hate crime. “I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools,” Gaga said. “I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there’s always somebody that’s listening. But I want them to know they’re listening before it gets too late.”

David Guetta has enlisted Nicki Minaj for a steam-punk-inspired affair for the pair’s “Turn Me On” music video.

In the clip, Guetta plays a mad scientist creating his very own Nicki Minaj from scrap parts. The clip opens on Guetta, perhaps trying out some early cosmetic-surgery tactics, putting the final touches on his Minaj doll plans. Then it focuses on the mechanisms behind the Nicki being: latex lips, brass wiring, tubing and lots of gizmos.

As the song hits the chorus for the first time, fans get a very NSFW view of his creation. Her plastic skin is shiny and completely bare as she slowly transforms into the very human-looking Nicki. Seemingly pleased with his creation, Guetta unleashes it onto the world.

Minaj is now free to roam the streets, filled with other doll-like creatures who can’t help but stare at Guetta’s incredibly lifelike creation. With Minaj continuing her journey through town, the other doll creatures make their way to Guetta’s lab, where he begins to work on them too, giving them more lifelike appearances. The female creatures then turn him into a man made completely of chain mail. Meanwhile, Nicki is surrounded by the male dolls as she belts out the song.

As the video wraps up, Minaj is spotted riding her horse around town, as the female dolls make their escape from Guetta’s place of business.

The video was shot late last year and directed by Sanji (the director behind videos for Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Jesse McCartney and more). At the American Music Awards last November, MTV News spoke to Guetta about working with the fierce rapper. “I want to see the reaction that people are gonna have because they are going to hear Nicki like they’ve never heard her before. … I really can’t wait to get the reaction from the American audience when they’re gonna see her sing like this because she is killing it. … She always comes with the crazy ideas,” he said. “So it’s very exciting.”

This is the second collabo for Guetta and Minaj. They also appeared together on his track “Where Them Girls At.”

Anything can happen on the red carpet at any given awards show, and in 2011, it felt like anything that could happen did. As MTV News reflects on some of the biggest moments of the year, we decided to remember some of the most-memorable things A-listers did live right in front of us all.

Lady Gaga’s Egg
In February, Gaga had everyone guessing how she would arrive to the Grammys. Given her penchant for crazy looks, no one would have guessed she would have showed up in an egg. Designed by Hussein Chalayan, Gaga later emerged from the structure to proclaim that she was “Born This Way.”

Snooki
Speaking of the Grammys, the reality star joined MTV News’ own Sway Calloway to talk to all the stars at the show. After helping us out on the 2010 red carpet, we learned that anything is possible with Snooki, and 2011 solidified that she’s the fieriest “meatball” to grace the “Jersey Shore.” We wonder if she and Bruno Mars ever ended up dating.

Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed
“Twilight” star Nikki Reed surprised everyone when she hit up the MTV Movie Awards in June. No, she hadn’t borrowed Gaga’s egg: She was rocking an engagement rock from her beau and “American Idol” alum Paul McDonald. The couple used the red carpet as the platform to announce their engagement, and married in October.

Beyoncé’s Baby Bump
She might have rubbed that burgeoning baby bump onstage at the Video Music Awards in August, but hours before she took the stage, donning a bright orange gown, Beyoncé let the paparazzi know she was expecting her first child with hubby Jay-Z by flaunting her pregnancy glow.

Justin Bieber’s Snake
While Beyoncé shared with the world her baby news, Bieber not only planted a kiss on VMA pre-show host and real-life lady love Selena Gomez, but also introduced her to his pet snake. His name? Johnson. She seemed less interested in the snake than perhaps he would have liked.

A brand new image from “The Hobbit” features Bilbo Baggins being surrounded by some very unexpected guests. The still looks to come from Bilbo’s first introduction to his 13 dwarf companions at Bag End, and he isn’t too pleased about it judging by the look on his face.

The one character noticeably absent from this photo is Gandalf, who led the introductions between the hobbit and the dwarves. Then again, the image is also missing nine of the other dwarves, so it seems like we’ll have to let it slide this time. Standing around Bilbo (Martin Freeman) from left to right are Bifur (William Kircher), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Bofur (James Nesbit) and Oin (John Callen).

The still comes courtesy of Yahoo! Movies and was included in a new interview with Evangeline Lilly about her role in “The Hobbit.” Unsurprisingly, it was a bit harder for her to play Tauriel the elf than Kate the human on “Lost.”

“I can’t just be spontaneous, because there is nothing natural about being an elf,” Lilly said. “It’s not human, so I have to study to learn what it means to be this other creature.”

That required a lot of additional training. Lilly had to relearn everything from fighting to walking and talking in order to give a convincing performance as Tauriel.

“On top of my stunt training — which I need to learn how to be proficient with the bow and arrow, and with daggers, and in fighting orcs that are, you know, ten feet tall — I also have to learn the language of Elvish, and I have to learn an RP [Received Pronunciation] neutral English accent for when I speak English,” she said, adding that she spent “four times as much time preparing as I do actually shooting.”

This interview comes hot off the heels of a chat Lilly had with Entertainment Weekly about “The Hobbit” last week. In it, she said Tauriel would have a lot more screen time in “There and Back Again” than she does in “An Unexpected Journey.”

It’s a new year and that means that there’s lots of ooey-gooey pop goodness all ready to pour out in 2012. Between celebrity babies, music and Hollywood, fans should gear up for some really big stuff in the coming year. But if history has taught us anything, as hard as we might plan, pop culture always has a way of sneaking up and surprising us. Not that we’re complaining. So get your planners out: MTV News is looking ahead at what to expect in the world of pop culture.

Music
There are lots of big album releases slated for 2012. Crossover queen Nicki Minaj will release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded just in time to show her Barbz and Kenz some love on Valentine’s Day. Madonna already has confirmed that she will drop her next album come spring. Fans already got a taste of it when the single “Gimme All Your Luvin’ ” leaked on the Internet.

“American Idol” alum Adam Lambert is readying the release of his next album, Trespassing, set to drop in March. Willow Smith’s fans should whip their hair back and forth as the tween’s long-simmering debut album, Knees and Elbows, will finally drop in April. Justin Bieber has teased his Believe album for a summer release. He’s shared that it will pick up where Justin Timberlake left off before he decided to focus on his acting. Basically, he’s bringing sexy back.

There are two forthcoming albums that don’t have exact release dates but are highly anticipated nonetheless. Lady Gaga is already thinking about her next album and recently revealed to MTV News that she even has a title for her Born This Way follow-up in mind. Taylor Swift is knee-deep in and working hard on her follow-up to her phenomenally successful Speak Now.

TV
In between pumping out tunes, some big shows will also return in 2012. Everything from “The Secret Circle” to “2 Broke Girls” to “New Girl” will be back for more fun come the new year.

After a break, “Pretty Little Liars” will be back midseason. Will we finally find out who “A” is when season 2 resumes on January 2? Well, only that texting antagonist knows the answer. There are many other mysteries on “The Vampire Diaries” that will also have to be resolved once that show picks up again on January 5. And if all that drama is too much to handle, “Glee” will be back for more sing-along good times on January 17, with the Michael Jackson tribute episode airing one week later.

Celebrity Babies
2012 is poised to be a big year for famous babies. OK, so 2011 saw Mariah Carey and Dem Babies, but some of the most famous ladies in La La Land and beyond will become first-time moms in the new year, giving MC and her family a run for their money.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z will welcome their first child into the world any day now. The twosome revealed they were in the family way at the VMAs back in August. Jessica Simpson and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, will also welcome their first little bundle of joy. The news of the pregnancy came after a lot of speculation about Simpson’s expanding midsection. As it turns out, it’s a big year for triple-threat moms-to-be, with Hilary Duff also expecting a baby come 2012.
